Just Start Talking

In 2019 JST were successful with an application for funding through The East Coseley Big Local. The new pilot project called Just Start Talking works to support lonely and isolated people within East Coseley.

This enables the community of East Coseley to have a supportive environment and start feeling better about the future and opportunities for participation within society.

People from East Coseley have opportunities to be involved through volunteering with the project which will decrease loneliness and present great opportunities to meet people and cultivate new friendships and social interactions.

The idea for creating a symbol of loneliness was the brainchild of Shona Gilsenan & Dave Roberts the JST community coordinators The symbol is a Pom Pom which are made and scattered across the community to highlight the issue and give people a talking point. Dave and Shona recognise that they cannot simply reach every lonely or isolated person.

Dave & Shona supports local people by helping them to access activities, coffee mornings, befriending, group sessions to give people some routine, support and increase their social circles.

Activities from pom pom making, games and deaf awareness workshops are held at the Rainbow Centre, Rainbow Street, Coseley.

Groups and sessions are available daily from mens groups to coffee mornings and park walks. JST is aware that in East Coseley isolation and loneliness is prevalent and works with partner agencies to help support this issue.
